Privacy Policy

What Zaply stores, and where

Your playlists (including the address and login of your provider), favourites, lists, watch history, Continue Watching, profiles and settings are stored on your device. If iCloud is on, they are also stored in your private iCloud database (CloudKit), which only you and your devices can read. We cannot access it.

Zaply has no account of its own and no server of its own. Nothing you do in the app is sent to us.

Household sharing

When you invite someone to your household, Zaply uses Apple’s CloudKit sharing. You choose who to invite, by the Apple ID they use. They can play the shared playlist and keep their own profile and progress. The data stays in the owner’s iCloud; you can remove a member at any time, and members can leave at any time.

Only invite people you trust: sharing a playlist gives them access to it.

Movie and series information

To show posters, summaries, air dates and the series calendar, Zaply looks up the titles in your playlist on TMDB (The Movie Database). The titles being looked up are sent to TMDB; images load from TMDB’s servers, which see your IP address like any website you visit. TMDB’s privacy policy applies to that traffic. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

Optional services you can connect

Trakt — only if you connect your Trakt account to a profile. Zaply then syncs your playback progress and watched history with Trakt. Disconnect at any time from the profile’s settings.

Subtitles — if you search for subtitles online, the request goes to OpenSubtitles with the details needed to find a match for what you are watching.

Chromecast — casting uses Google’s Cast framework on your local network. Google’s terms and privacy policy apply to the Cast connection.

None of these are required. The app works without any of them.

Built-in VPN

Zaply does not operate a VPN service and has no VPN servers. You import your own WireGuard configuration; Zaply starts and stops that tunnel for you. Your configurations, including their keys, are stored on your device and, if iCloud sync is on, in your private iCloud database. Your traffic goes to the VPN server you configured, never through us.

AI Captions

AI Captions are recognised on your device using Apple’s speech recognition. The sound never leaves your device. A language model may be downloaded from Apple the first time you use a language.

Notifications

Series alerts and programme reminders are local notifications, scheduled and delivered on your device. There is no push server behind them.

Analytics and crash reports

Zaply contains no analytics, advertising or tracking SDK. If you have chosen to share diagnostics with app developers in your iOS or tvOS settings, Apple may forward anonymised crash reports to us. That is the only technical data we can ever receive, and it identifies neither you nor your playlists.

Purchases

Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple’s App Store. We never see your payment details. Apple’s privacy policy applies to the transaction.

This website

This site sets no cookies. If analytics are enabled, they are cookieless and record only anonymous page views and a handful of clicks (TestFlight, App Store, language). No personal data is collected.

If you sign up for the launch email, your address is stored with our emailing provider, only to send you that email and news about Zaply. You confirm your address first (double opt-in), every email has a one-click unsubscribe, and your address is never shared or sold.

Your rights

Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to export, correct or delete: everything is on your devices and in your iCloud, under your control. Erasing Zaply’s data from iCloud is done in the app (Account → Erase) or from your iCloud settings. For the launch email list, use the unsubscribe link or write to us.

Zaply is not directed at children, and collects no data from anyone, of any age.

If this policy changes, we update it here and change the date at the top.
